Minister’s Musings

We’ve had good news and bad news amongst our members last month.  Jenne Danzl is back to work after her auto accident in early December, and recovering the use of her right hand.  Gail Duell had hip replacement surgery and is regaining her strength at home.  Trish Hart slipped on the ice outside her work, sustaining a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula and a dislocated ankle.  She’s had surgery and is home again, waiting for further word on her prognosis.  Rissie Casagranda joined our fellowship on the last Sunday in January.

I’m glad to see so many working together to support our temporarily less-able members.  Thanks to Michelle Keagle who’s been coordinating meals for Gail and Trish.

The Building Your Own Theology class got off to a great start with ten participants.  This class will be on hold while I’m away this month, and resume on March 2nd.

Jim, Elizabeth and I are traveling to the Seattle area to visit his daughter and granddaughter, and my sister.  We’ll continue on to a UU Ministers’ Association meeting and the Pacific NorthWest District Annual General Meeting in Portland, Oregon.  While in Oregon, we’ll visit one of Jim’s grown-up grandchildren and meet two new great-grandchildren.  Then it will be on to the San Francisco area to visit my parents, brothers, and half-sisters.

I’m excited about creating a dragon in the Hogwarts Great Hall.  Every castle needs a friendly dragon. Take a look downstairs to watch its progress.

The Board went on a Treasure Hunt through the basement this month.  Each Board member at the February meeting had a list of nine different items to find in the file drawers, library, RE supplies, worship supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.  I’m hoping that everyone has a better idea of where to find a host of resources.  If anyone else wants to try, I have more lists available.

We are signed up to receive Church-on-Loan materials from the UUA’s Church of the Larger Fellowship.  To see what’s available and order a Month of Sundays complete services, visit http:/www.uua.org/clf .  Our COL number is 86840 and our congregational contact person is Phyllis Shoemaker.  Be sure to let Phyllis know if you order something since the materials will go to her.

             Yours with love and hope,

                          Beatrice

UUSC, UUA join in humanitarian relief for tsunami victims
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is committed to helping to address the immediate dangers faced by survivors of the earthquake and  tsunami, as well as helping restore livelihoods they have lost. Fishing  communities in all areas have been hardest hit. In the months to come, we
will be working to help these communities so that the fishing boats can once again provide an income for those who work on them and provide food for the communities surrounding them.

So far, your generosity and compassion has raised $984,000 for the UUSC-UUA Tsunami Relief Fund. Read stories of those who survived the disaster, how UUs and UU congregations are responding and how your  onation is being used. Visit: www.uusc.org/tsunami.
