Minister's Musings The SUU Forum on Youth revealed much to be done here in Seward. There was a strong cry for parenting classes for both young children and teens, a desire for more family activities in town, a real need for a safe house for runaways, a proposal for community-based job training for high school students… I have been reading a book I bought at the UU District Conference in Portland in February, Taking Charge: Caring Discipline that Works at Home and at School, by JoAnne Nordling, M.S., M.Ed. Written for both parents and teachers of children age three through the teens, it offers guidelines for twelve weekly group discussions, chapter by chapter. Is anyone interested? I could start in May. To clarify the Hitchcock family's plans for everyone, we will be in Seward through the summer. Jim is building a home in Cooper Landing this summer, and there is no point in our moving five hours away while he is working close by. We plan to be moved into our cabin at Caribou Creek in time for Elizabeth to start school at Glacier View School. We want to rent out our house and cottage in Seward. We'll start building a new house at the Creek after we're all there together. Love, Beatrice |
